I like to play whole albums too, get to know at least a whole side. But sometimes I cue in to play specific tracks (if my eyes & lighting are good enough) - YMMV but I've never noticed vinyl damage as a result.

I like the volume control on my Violectric V200 headphone amp. It's an Alps RK27 with 41-step detent , feels lovely and smooth in operation and the steps between each click are quite fine so it's easy to find a repeatable listening volume that suits.

I can't remember when I last saw an ALPS RK27 (blue) detented version, certainly not the 41-steps model!

But sometimes I cue in to play specific tracks (if my eyes & lighting are good enough) - YMMV but I've never noticed vinyl damage as a result. I'm with you on all three points there! I like to get to know an album, both sides too. But after knowing an album, sometimes I want thereafter (or on occasion!) to play even only two tracks, or just one! (Same as on a CD!) And so, yes lighting good, wearing eyeglasses, it's a pleasure to lower the stylus impeccably on to the land between grooves ... I don't believe any vinyl damage thus, especially with a clean stylus. But having someone randomly crudely clumsily carelessly drunk, who knows - jab about roughly trying to find the start of the track - > that could @#!%&*** be irritating! Even or especially if it was oneself!

Haha RdM - and I have never trusted myself to hand-cue tonearms (ie without oil-damped lifter) esp late at night Others may be more adroit and self-confident.

nearly 30 years of hand cueing with a well tempered and no accidents, even after some libations...

With the orig WTT you had no other option? (No lifter?)

no lifter on those early arms, not even the transparent made ones. you learnt to be gentle or stocked up on cartridges.

continuing with cartridges.... there's no love for unthreaded or worse, open sided cartridges here.

No TT dust cover either? No pets, no kids & no dust in Palmy? PS. I'm interested in what the Lyra stylus guard design looks like.

no pets, no kids, some dust. lyra guard is a big plastic thing that slides into the grooves on the body. interesting packaging too. the box has no lid as such. the cartridge is in a foam cutout. you push from teh bottom and out pops the cartridge. how to upload a photo on fb

nearly 30 years of hand cueing with a well tempered and no accidents, even after some libations... Ditto. At first it was a bit odd with the WT but I quickly got used to it. And Dynavector arm has no lifter so forced to use my favourite method. Others have lifters but more and more I prefer just to drag and drop it. Its so much quicker!

Some tonearms have flimsy finger-lifts (ie. nasty vibration & resonances right at the cartridge-h'shell), so best to remove if possible & use damped cueing device in that case - IMHO (We all know how much energy is generated by cartridges.)

very true.
the original wta tube gave music an extra zing, even with the sand filling.
the arm rest added it's own signature too.
cured by wrapping the arm and arm rest.
