Note, this is from the perspective of a record store owner but does make a lot of common sense. "How much money is your vinyl record collection worth? Should you sell it now while the market is hot? Will you easily be able to maximize your profits from the sale? These are all questions many record collectors are asking themselves right now. If you are considering selling, are you ready to put in the time and effort it takes to pull it off?
✶ Talking About Records is presented by NTX Vinyl, a local, independent, chain of community based record stores in the DFW area."This video is more about selling a whole collection but I've been thinking of selling a few of my more valuable records while the value is high, so that I can buy even more records. Things to consider: - Only a few so I can sell privately rather than to a record store
- Will the prices go even higher? (Have only ever sold a few albums and two of them have since increased in value 10 fold, even though I've happy sold them at a decent profit).
- Do I really need to have this album, better to go to someone who will appreciate it more?
- Will there be a reissue soon? If so I'm more than happy to have that instead.
- Loss of bragging rights!
Anything else to consider?

If you want to maximize the valuable items then you should be selling on Ebay, Discogs etc. I'm not prepared to do that so expectations and returns are lower.
It would be a very poor day when you couldn't make at least a very small return on your record providing it's in good condition and there's a market in NZ.
I know I have some records that have a very small market here and if they're valuable then that market shrinks.
Right now I've taken about 900 items, mainly CDs, from my Discogs list and I have absolutely no regrets and happy to put the money towards less selfish goals.
A bit of guilt reduction taking place.😃

Sometimes that later reissue commands prices many times that of early pressings. I can live with a bit of sucking for a good return. A good time to sell is before events mean you have to. Far less stressful.

MW is of course correct in that most of the time the reissue will be of lesser or the same/different sonics. But more to the point, I'm willing to forego the outrageously high price of an OG, for a "similar" sounding reissue. Does that mean I need to hand in my audiophile credentials?

Does that mean I need to hand in my audiophile credentials? No. Like you I'm happy to go with a modestly(😂) priced reissue than chase an expensive original. There's always the chance that your original looks great but has groove wear cutting back on any advantage. There's also numerous records that the prized great sounding original is priced out of reach for 99 per cent of us. Prepping a couple of reissues today for TM and I'll never get to hear rare and expensive originals so was happy to get a nice reissue. Mellow Candle, Swaddling Songs Nick Drake. Bryter Later

A few months ago a Dunedin antique/second hand shop had what I think was a NZ original ND release for a reasonable $500.
Wasn't tempted even for a minute.

Generally agree with a good reasonably priced re-issue instead of a silly price original, eg. recent Blue Note 75/80/Classic Vinyl/Tone Poets
However sometimes originals are worth the high ask,
My old 70's/80s US and Dutch Kind of Blues sound better than the new ones, even with one side at the wrong speed 
Side 1 of my (digital ?) Tom Petty Wildflowers beats the recent all-analogue re-issue.
Don't get me started on half-wit remasters and auteur remixes
Back to the original question...
I probably do have some valuable pieces but my records were bought to enjoy not speculate.
Selling large chunks would be a nightmare.

Selling a collection is a nightmare unless you have it all sorted on discogs like cooks, but with 10000 LPs that aint gonna happen, so you are left to list your 50 on TM and hope for the best. Fashion and trends are at play here too. Currently trendy items will go for good prices but everything else no matter how rare can languish.
Beatles: You need to hear the original UK monos: I have 2 on TM right now: Hard days night is excellent.

[/quote] Sadly my Discogs listings have got somewhat out of kilter on the CDs. Need to find the energy to go back over them. From a seller's point I wish I'd had the foresight twenty plus years ago the snap up those cheap Flying Nun and heavy metal lps. Like everyone else though I purchased what I thought I would enjoy. Obviously a lot of my tastes don't align with the current market here in NZ. The fact that a few buys now appear to attract good money is pure luck. I don't think I'm going to push too hard on sales past the end of March.

A friend had a few original UK Beatles monos Please Please Me, AHDN, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper. We compared them to the Mono Box re-issues and there was little in them. He promptly gave up collecting the rest of the original UKs and bought a Mono Box.
My second copy of AHDN.
First copy in the Box was munted, other albums were perfect but AHDN looked like a shop demo copy.
Fishpond wouldn't replace it without me sending the whole box back - bugger that !
So I bought a second copy - it was only $28 or something - I think all the Monos are out of print ?

Back in the day they were actually decent ! I got my Beatles Mono Box and other stuff from them for less than Amazon et al. Now they are rubbish.

Great price. I got mine from Amazon Ca with $7 shipping for only slightly less. But was slightly damaged so they sent me another for free, without having to return it. Sold it for cost so effectively my boxset cost me nothing! I really miss Amazon CA!
