We already have a New Member Introductions forum section & we have numerous forum threads posted by members about their systems or system issues, but..... We don't have a section where anyone can just randomly post images of their humble (or otherwise) set-ups, for us to see & enjoy. Detailed stories not required (unless you wish to), post any sort of a pic here, just to see your typical home (or office or shed) music and/or AV systems. Let's see them! (Of course, you can still start a thread to discuss, seek advice or just an update about your system/s - by all means continue to do so.)

My boombox: A portable system for when I BBQ or other outside use. Akai SW30 speakers with a wee chinese amp.
We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

Thanks guys, TT is an ancient Rega Planar 3, hidden on bottom shelf is a CA phono amp. Amp is Krell S300i CDP is Oppo BDP-105 Martin Logan Vista spkrs - actually I'm having an issue with one of these dropping in o/p level. I think new panels are required, have enquired about price/availability of replacements.
Regards, Derek.

That's nice. Decor looks relaxing to the eye & the speakers are nicely proportioned.

Yes, tried washing the panel and have also switched panels between speakers. The issue follows the panel. They've had a lot of use but never thrashed. Currently finding if I adjust the balance to ~2 o'clock I can get the image centered and once they's been running for a while I can slowly adjust the balance back to near centre. I've had these MLs for ~12 years and understand they can/do deteriorate over time - the good folk at ML Service Dept said this was not unusual given the age of the panels. The NZ ML distributor is investigating the price and availability of a pair of replacement panels. While I'd love to get them performing as new again there is a limit to what I'm prepared to spend. Trouble is, if I end up buying something new (and I've got no idea what that might be), what do I then do with a pair of sub-par MLs? Once again we seem to be straying from the thread topic....

Yes, panel problems. No way out of it I’m afraid, apart from new panels.... CLSs were afflicted with that as well. I sold my MLs while they were working fine. New, comparable speakers would be more costly than repairing the MLs. Magneplanars just keep going, if you like that sort of sound. I was disappointed when I had to sell my MG1.6s as they didn’t sound right in my new, small room up against the wall, and been missing them ever since! I suspect Maggies would also shine in your room, dc4.

Does the coating on the diaphragms degrade over time? I have a pal who has had Acoustats for 30+ years

Have had various ML over the years, had a quick google and found that the Vista is the latest version of the Aerius (which I had at one time, and famous as the ones in Friends !). Are the Vistas no longer being made, or have they been replaced by a new model ? IME Maggies sound quite different from ML ( I have had 1.6s and SMGb ), Apogees I really liked but they are now long gone and a much more forward and upfront sounding spkr than an Aerius, interestingly I also found the larger ML hybrids to have a more lively and upfront sound than the smaller ones as well (Quests I think they were with a 10 inch driver...). I currently run esl57 with a pair of REL subwoofers which suit my room and tastes in music quite nicely but admittedly not to everyones taste and not immediately impressive to any civilians either...
I would investigate a pair of panels or maybe an upgrade (?) to the latest version if you like their sound ?
Not sure if Acoustats are still available, are Soundline still doing Quad ?

Not seen new Acoustats in NZ since the early 1990s.
The company lived briefly in China but now appear to be gone.
Denco/Soundline stopped handling Quads 2-3 years ago.

Interestingly I did look at the Maggie 1.6 prior to buying my MLs. The sales critter was insisting I buy a sub as well but when auditioning I found I was constantly adjusting the sub to get the sound balance right for me. I looked at a pair of Goldenear Triton Ones a few months ago just for fun and had the same issue. I guess if I'd bought either I'd have eventually found the correct setting for me. I haven't heard a new pair of Maggies since the 1.7 was first introduced some years ago. If the ML panels prove too expensive to replace I might have a look at the newer Maggie .7s. I understand the Maggie LRS model is not coming to the NZ market anytime soon. It'd take something seriously special (and almost certainly not within my modest budget) to convince me to go back to conventional cone speakers now...

and a monster amp to run them with. Doubt that I would get much more than a squeak with my EL34 powered monos.

And probably cheaper than replacing the panels in my Vistas.... Not sure the wife would approve though! They're monsters!

Yes they are very large, imagine having a couple of All black front rowers standing in your lounge and you get the idea. Also no driver for the bass like your vistas. And a very large amp works best.

CLS are about 5ft tall but not that imposing as you can see through them

Most people mistook mine for room dividers, whereas now people mistake the Quads for heaters !

The EL34 monos would sound like a pussycat in the kitchen driving the CLSs. You need a lion. I could always make some appropriate hybrid amps...I originally designed my 100w class A hybrid to drive my Magneplanar MG3.5s.

Hi Colin,
Very happy with my modest Quad set up thanks Colinf. Have not the room nor the inclination to return to the CLS's. I found a pair of 300w Accuphase monos really made mine come alive.

Did you have CLS1 or CLS2 ?
1 were more magical sounding, 2 easier to drive
i got good results from medium powered SS amps and low-mid power tubes.
