Is this the half you refer to? Must admit I don't think I've had it on a table for about 6 months now. Probably time to move it on, if anyone is interested jon Best used on a non-suspended deck to allow the full benefits that a linear tracking arm air bearing arm allows. Lots of info from Vic's site www.trans-fi.com/terminatortonearm.htm

I have one, so I'm afraid not. Anyway it's that good an arm, that I'd prefer to share the love and let someone have it.

Some pics of Terminator installations: On a 301: On a SL1200: On an early Trans-Fi Salvation rim-drive TT: And on my Aura TT previously:

Owners have adapted to suit their TTs, but the standard arm-mount looks like this, as on my TT (Jan 2015): The tonearm sits on a Delrin (acetal) pillar 41mm diam. which is bolted through the TT's 44mm slate plinth

A pic of the air manifold (with slider removed) on the arm base.... One of the Poul Ladegaard's concept (upon which this arm was based), is that the air-gap between the arm slider & the air-manifold can be minimal & air pressure can be low. Whereas air-bearing arms with a rod sliding within a tube, or a sleeve sliding over a rod, have a fixed air gap & high air pressures are usually specified. The top brass screw is for VTA adjustemnt. 2 end screws (RHS) are for level adjustment. The air supply tube is visible exiting from the rear of the manifold block.

So Owen - have you moved on from your Aura?

Yes I have beeman - and yes I must get around to moving it on to a good home.

You know, the more I read about this table and the more I see it - the more I'm in love without ever having heard one. Alas, far beyond my reach. Possibly until the kids leave home. Sigh. I'd take your Aura in a heartbeat too. Would probably be an equal delight to these heathen ears... Alas. You keep posting, I'll keep dreaming...

Owen Y CitroenHow'd you guys say these arms are to set-up/maintain for someone, like myself, with little experience. Anything I need to know? Maybe my Lenco would suit one?

I've been having to sort a wee phono problem recently & I must say that it's handy being able to swap tonearm wands. A bit like swapping headshells - except that the counterweight is already on board & VTF is preset, also azimuth.

The TERMINATOR linear-tracking, air-bearing tonearm is now being made by TERMINATOR (Andrey Shislo) in Russia. Andrey has engaged in ongoing development & introduced a number of improvements already: - Carbon Fibre arm wand. - Brass (nickel-plated) manifold - allows more precise machining of smaller, more uniform air holes for smoother/less turbulent, lower-pressure air flow. - Aluminium slider is now nickel-plated & the natural resonance mismatch with the brass manifold is beneficial, Andrey says. - New copper litz wiring (or silver-plated copper option). I have had enthusiastic reports from UK about Andrey's new Terminator & carbon arm wand: darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/2017/04/15/terminator-tonearm-new-arm-mount/(Scroll down for latest comments.)

Some brass pivot points, for the arm wand, to try. Machined from brass M3 grubscrews, off Aliexpress. Original Terminators used SS points, current arms use nylon. This will be an experiment.

Andrey 's Terminator keeps improving and that is a good thing. What about the Owen Y improvement to the tonearm?

If you have a spare set of those I would be willing to cross your palm with silver... jon, I may have some spares in the future, when my engineer finds time to do some more for me. Andrey 's Terminator keeps improving and that is a good thing. What about the Owen Y improvement to the tonearm? logic6 - I'm still (after 6 yrs!) on the learning curve with this tonearm, learning its strengths & weaknesses. I hope to chat with Andrey more in the future. He & Vic are still a font of knowledge & experience. VTA gauge - yes, a cut down digital caliper, a $25 China-made job probably, like mine. Handy, but keeps draining batteries. Unlike a quality Japanese Mitutoyo dig. caliper - but no-one's going to cut down one of those (at $300/pc)! I've just read your palm. you have OCD, OTT, but will live to 110. Cheers Oh darn... that's not MY hand!

Over the past few months, I've had occasional mistracking, with various cartridges, various albums. Changed cartridges, checked alignment, VTF, VTA, TT & tonearm levelling. Even played with changed tonearm Effective Mass (weighting headshell, different c/weight sizes, etc). Finally, whilst levelling the tonearm air-manifold, it dawned on me that the air-pump had been wound up quite high, for a while. Unlike most air-bearing linear trackers, this tonearm does not need high air pressure - because of Ladegaard's (a Danish B&K engineer) original concept using alumin. angles 'nested' together under gravity. (Whereas 'sleeve & rod' type air-bearings need high pressure to 'fill' a tight tolerance gap.) So, the Terminator can utilise an inexpensive aquarium pump (Sera, German) + a 'surge tank' (smoothing tank made from a plastic jerry can). Using the Gasfitter's soapy water test, I discovered that one of the glued joints made 5 yrs ago on the surge tank, was leaking air.

OK so we resealed all the plastic joints with Aliphatic Resin wood glue (not too hard-setting) & air supply is all good again at an estimated 1 psi or so. The arm slider floats nicely, after careful levelling with the Terminator's 2-screw locking system. (An air-bearing tonearm should be mounted on a non-suspended TT plinth - although it works fine on TransFi's own stable, heavy slate-plinthed Salvation TT with mag-lev footers.) Tracking now flawless & stable, again. - no skipping, no more nervy instability at high level modulations. So far, so good...

The brass pivot-points are excellent - VERY resolving, dynamic range & so far no sense of any metal 'chatter'. The original points were Stainless steel, currently nylon points are supplied as stock standard - after Vic found these to solve the pivot 'chatter' that I felt was impairing high level playback. It's curious how brass often seems to be a suitable material for audio applications. Further listening required but again, so far so good. Brass pivot points installed, with M3 brass locknuts on topside. Vic's nylon pivot points.
