is anyone else here using this? it was released about a year ago by a group in Perth and i came across it on SNA. i had started off using Daphile and loved the feel of it. i then changed to vortexbox and preferred its sound. snake-oil seems to combine the feel of daphile with the sound of vortexbox. it even has its own little forum which is a great place to receive support from it's designer - Agent Kith. www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=119

there is a new upgraded version of this recently released. in the words of the developer -
Allow me to blow my own trumpet, IMHO - Snakeoil OS is the best option for sound quality right now if you want to play music from a computer! If you agree, please make a short comment in the feedbacks section, or write a testimonial (if you have a forum account). If you are on Facebook, follow the SnakeoilOS page and write a review.
The idea is to spread Snakeoil OS everywhere.
While Google is bringing in dedicated audiophiles who are actively looking for the best audiophile software, your comments/reviews/exposure will bring in the people who are on the fence. Make people understand they don't have to pay good money to get the best. Yes there is a donation option, but this is not paid software.
Snakeoil OS is the best - and it is free. Want to know the extent of this freedom? Anybody can copy Snakeoil OS, call it their own idea and make money off it. There are absolutely no strings attached.

the really sad thing is that i cannot use it in its current form as the sotm uses an unsupported board - ARM. but there might be something happening in the future. if so i will definately replace the sotm software with this. so if you are using a computer, load the snakeoil os onto a usb stick and try it out.

I have Daphile. The only reason I use it is because it runs headless and serves a web page. The quality is acceptable as well.
Thanks for the link tho' one to watch.

Thanks for the link tho' one to watch. snakeoil is very similar in feel and appearance to daphile but when i did the switch there was better SQ. both can be trialled from usb stick. setting up is very similar too.
