I don't have any more silver of equal dirtiness to do a proper test.
But my gut feeling is that the surfactant has more effect than the temp, as I found that adding surfactant made it a lot cleaner, compared to repeated cleans with a rising water temp tank.

Hi jon - as discussed above, be sure you get a 220-240vac version. BTW, our Ultrasonic Cleaner attachment/kit requires only the insertion of 7 screws. The laser-cutting should be done within a few days we hope, but my 'engineer' is complaining about being snowed under at work & even took Easter off! He then needs to fold & install the riv-nuts into the cut stainless plates. Thanks for patience guys, it looks like the first batch is near fully allocated.

Chaps - pleased to report that first batch of Stainless Steel lasercuts arrived today, pre-folded too. Will dble-check the fit this weekend. Just the plastic drive-coupler moulding to come, to complete the parts.

A bit of overtime in the engineering shop & the injection moulding is done - drive couplers moulded in ABS plastic. The trial rivnuts in the metalwork were a bit tight fit on the tank, so the remainder will be installed a bit shorter. Everything is to hand, will be ready to ship next week.

Great stuff.
Its a real pain rotating one lp on quarter turns every 5 mins or so. So the sooner its ready the better!
PS. Remind me to get that armboard to you too.

This is what the 'kit' looks like: Comprising....3-part 1.2mm stainless steel frame, stainless screws(4) & spring washers, stainless steel shaft with ABS drive-coupler & end bearing, record spacers(4), clamp knobs(2). All you need is a 2.5mm hex wrench (allen key) to assemble the 3-part frame. ($175 + postage.) (Black burn marks from laser-cutting, on the metalwork are on the protective plastic which peels off.)

And fully assembled:

Owen Y I've removed the spacer, which gives me a little more wiggle room. Bottom of record still hits the side of the tank as it slides down, but not as much as before. B tends to hit C, as its moved to the left by distance A, when you drop FOUR lps in. My initial thoughts on that cut out won't help, as eliminating the spacer is practically the same. So NO problems at all with using THREE lps at once as its designed to do. Just me being lazy, and trying to squeeze another lp in! multi hostingBrilliant drawing BTW.

Citroen - how about offsetting the records a bit towards the motor, adjusting the clamp knobs? I will try a 4-stack on my tank.

Citroen - how about offsetting the records a bit towards the motor, adjusting the clamp knobs? I will try a 4-stack on my tank. Currently its as far left as it can go. I'd be very interested in your findings. I might try some temporary thinner spacers, to test if they need to be spread out as much. And then assess the acceptable time/number of lps to cleanliness quality ratio.

Found some hex nuts (which hopefully won't harm the label!). Maximum 8 lps, with some touching of sides when inserting into machine. Also, raised the attachment to maximum height. This helps so that the lp edge of the outer lps does not contact the shorter edge of the US machine (where it curves and narrows).

Next time I examine a s/h record for cleanliness, I will look for tell-tale hex marks around the spindle

Unfortunately, if you look really hard, twist the lp in the right light, a few do have a light mark. Probably should have used washers but don't have enough on hand. Next batch I'll use some form of protection.
These 8 lps are only a test consisting of old Jimmy Barnes, Sting, Phoebe Snow et al so not really a concern!
If I convince myself 10mm spacers are Ok, I might just cut the original 22mm orange ones in half.

getting greedy there !
has optimal gap/number of records in one go been determined yet ?
|
Post by Citroen on Apr 26, 2017 17:21:42 GMT 12
Cleanervinyl.com has 12, yes twelve! lps in the very same machine. So I reckon 8 is reasonable

As I have to keep on telling my managers, its not about greed or laziness, its all about being efficient!

For those doing assembly of the kit, this is the orientation of the motor plate & the end-bearing plate, on the baseplate:

rocl - we have parts for a batch of 10. There's some interest on StereoNet in Oz.

Citroen - what was the source/listing of your cleaner tank? Same as rocl's? There seems to be some out-of-stock difficulty obtaining this 6L tank, over in Oz.

No - but we am relying on the indefatigable Monsieur Citroen to do the hard yards in his lab Following what I was taught at Massey many moons ago, first do a literature search for past studies, rather than repeat what has been done before. Hmnmmm. Only anecdotal evidence, but nevertheless...seems like 3-5 for this machine, with outliers at 1 and 12. Of the 8 I did at once, I heard no difference after I cleaned them again but with only 4 at a time. Which MIGHT suggest 8 at a time is OK. Early days in Citroen's "lab"!

Chaps Assembly - those who are assembling this kit, it is pretty simple with just 4 screws (+ 3 motor screws), but these notes may help: 1) You should find the following parts - 3 pcs of laser-cut stainless sheet metalwork, a threaded stainless rod with plastic square adapter for the motor drive, 4 red record spacers & a bag containing 2 black 'clamp knobs', 4 stainless button head hex socket screws + spring washers, 1 ball bearing unit. 2) Strip off the protective plastic from the sheet metal plates. 3) The large stainless 'baseplate' has 4 protruding nuts under, which should slide under the cleaner tank flange from the short end of the tank - if you have the correct tank. 4) Attach the 2 upstanding smaller side plates onto the fold-down sides of the main frame, using the 4 screws + washers (align flush the bottom edges of the plates to the baseplate bottom edge) - the correct orientation of the motor plate to the smaller bearing plate is shown in the pic below. (Note, the pic shows a prototype unit, the metalwork has machinine marks ) 5) Motor - remove the black attachment plate from the rotisserie motor & use the same 3 screws & spacers to attach the motor to the motor plate (as pic below) - don't overtighten, don't strip the motor plastic threading. 6) Assemble the record-rod with its clamp knobs & spacers (as pic below) - the little bearing just sits in the cutout in the bearing plate. Done! Cheers, Owen

I do without the black plastic spacers between motor and mounting plate. This makes it easier to slot in the rod holder. I don't find any problem with heat or vibration, but its certainly a lot easier to insert the rod, easier to see and closer to the tank.
